BREIF FOR CHAIRMAN

CELEBRATING REGIONAL VOLUNTEERING CONVENTIONS AND VOLUNTEER WEEKS IN PROVINCES

National Volunteer Movement is mandated to promote and facilitate volunteering in the country. In order to promote volunteering NVM has started a program of 5-day volunteering Week (Hafta-e-Razakariat) in each Provincial Headquarter.

Activities:-

1. Regional Conventions gathering of volunteers in the provinces
2. Focused and exclusive workshops with key stakeholders e.g. media, government departments, NGOs and Corporate Sector
3. Speech and Essay contests in around 50 universities/colleges
4. Show casing volunteering potential by
1. Traffic control and road safety campaigns by volunteers
2. Sustainable development initiatives by volunteers through cleanliness and plantation campaigns
5. Holding discussions with stakeholders for a national volunteering policy
6. Training general public generally as volunteers and specifically for traffic, cleanliness, plantation and basic fire and rescue
7. Recognition of volunteers by certificates and cash awards
8. Raising awareness about Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) through Millennium Candle Campaign jointly in collaboration with Anwar Jannat Memorial Foundation and Your Trust.

Purposes:-

i.          Raising awareness among:
            a.         general public
            b.         media
            c.         students – educational institutions
            d.         NGOs
            f.          Government Departments
ii.         Demonstrating the potential of volunteering for community development
iii.       Exploring the possibility of increased facilitation for volunteering by media, corporate sector, government departments and civil society organizations
iv.        Developing policy outline for a National Volunteering Policy
v.         Raising Volunteers
vi.        Developing linkages with NGOs, Corporate Sector, Media and Government Departments for increased role of volunteering.

1. Raising awareness about MDGs and achievement of MDGs targets for Pakistan through volunteering.
2. Recognition of Volunteers and VIOs
